Kapote village is a small village in a serene region of Nigeria. In this village, there was a young girl known as Amarachi. Despite coming from a poor background, which was evident from the radiant looks of her mother, Amarachi had the most beautiful smile that could light up an entire village. Going further, her name was a perfect one for her: Grace, from the Igbo word chidinma, which translates to ‘God’s grace’.
Closely related, due to poor financial performance, the family background of the young lady, Amarachi, was characterized by hardship, but she did not bow to the odds of being poor. It’s only in simple things such as the break of dawn, a ripe mango in the mouth, and the beautiful symphony of birds that she was able to find happiness. In her heart, she was still innocent as the fresh dew of the morning, while her spirit was tough as a diamond.
There was once a day that, while surrounded by the hilly village, Amarachi came across a small abandoned library. The books and the shelves full of books grew dust and made squeaky, painful sounds; it was her haven. The place was her second home; she read science, history, and literature there day and night. Mrs. Ngozi, the librarian, could see that Amarachi wanted to learn something, and she became her mentor.
Episode 8: The Dream As Amarachi became more engrossed in her studies, she also developed more ambitions. The dream within her native-set heart was to become a doctor, to help people of her compound and spread hope to hopeless families. She did not quit as the odds were heavily stacked against her; she studied under the light of a lantern, albeit asking for help from Mrs. Ngozi.
Years went on, and Amarachi was not discouraged; she continued to work even harder and her efforts were rewarded. She was able to get a scholarship to a respected university and proved excellent in her studies. Her peers rejoiced for her, and close relatives felt proud of what she had accomplished.
Amarachi became a qualified doctor and returned to her village as a bearer of hope to people who badly needed a fresh start. These she set up and run as clinic, where she was dispensing free of charge to people who could not afford it. This woman extended selflessness to other individuals, as she was undeniably gentle, caring, gracious, and had such qualities that remain engraved unto the hearts of the people she came across.
Amarachi was also well-endowed from head to toe but more beautiful in the interior. She proved that if there is a light at the end of the tunnel, even though we may feel lost at times, there is a spark in all of us and it is my privilege as her mother to help her guide that spark so that she can at least help others see it. I want to think that she kept on giving her message of love, hope, grace and never letting past dictate the future; that every slight action can go out into the world and make a difference.
