The Deity of Minor Aspects Episode 1
The Lost Sanctuary
There were some peaceful transformations to the rhythm of life in the beautiful, compact village of Ananthapuram, which was situated between the forests and hills. The people had their set of gods and spirits to whom they assigned watching over them, and each of those gods while fertility remained for them had a little shrine scattered all over the town and the environs. And amongst these countless shrines, the mystery shrine that has now disappeared was devoted to a minor deity – God of Small Things.
The shrine was nearly abandoned and could only be reached through a dense path in woods that grew all over the structure. As per earthy stories, the god for Small Things meant these minute facets of living; the petite miracles usually left unseen; tiny joys and sorrows; and wide-reaching gains often overlooked.
The curious and adventurous Ravi who is 12 years of age made the decision to do the impossible one summer day that is go into the forest. This he was much keen on seeing as he had heard many stories about it. A pack of food in his hand and a stick in another hand began walking along a small zigzagging trail and disappeared into the woods.
Through the thick and thin, Ravi proceeded walking until he landed on the sight of the shrine. Here was an architectural construction that was made from stones and in simple shapes and installations were carved small animals and vegetation. The closer he got the was calmed and there was something that filled him with some kind of warm comfortable feeling. Emotionalized by what he saw and feeling a somehow innate connection with the place he got down on his knees and said a small prayer.
Ravi came up with the culture of going to the temple after that particular day. He would temporarily freshen it up, put toasters, chocolates and biscuits, and discuss his aspirations and issues with the God of Small Things. He also felt more secure visiting her because it was as if his small joys and concerns were being recognized and attended to.

The Minor Wonders
It took the next few weeks before Ravi slowly began to feel that there were changes in his life. His family looked content and finally he got better marks at school, and those small joyful incidents started to occur. The population of the main character’s father was not going well for his business until one fine day when he received an order that changed everything for the better. Ravi once smelled something awful: a puppy he decided to take home to his younger sister’s disbelief.
These were small miracles, which Ravi attributed to the God of Small Things. He later narrated his experiences to his best friend, Meera; whom despite inquiring was non-believing. It all began one sultry afternoon when they were lazing by the village well, and she happened to ask him how come a forgotten shrine and a minor god could count for so much?
Ravi replied to her, “I don’t know Meera, but it seems the God of Small Things is listening. Maybe, we should direct our focus to the insignificant occurrences in life. "
They were surprised at the development and this made Meera agree to accompany Ravi the next time he went to the shrine. People were cleaning the house and departing at every corner, paying tribute to the spirits, and expressing their worries and desires to one another. Like Ravi said, Meera felt an inner tranquility, similar to when she was awaiting something peculiar to happen.
Over time more and more locals started coming to worship in the temple thanks to the stories of Ravi and Meera. That there was some force or entity interested in their little pleasures and gripes as they went about their business was rather comforting. Previously, the shrine was something left and forgotten; today, it is a place of contemplation and admiration.

The Change in the Village
The center of the village began to change as people returned to the site that the shrine once stood for. They learned to appreciate what they were doing, the pleasant activities they do in the day, the nice things people could say, the acts of kindness or charity. The hamlet was fine not by the grand gestures large and monumental but due to the fact that just everyone was able to enjoy the small but important things in life.
On a lighter note – the guards Ravi and Meera, who were in actuality the unofficial guards of the temple were applauded for their dedication. That is why they continued often to return, always devising new strategies to express gratitude to the God of Little Things. This forgotten deity was slowly but surely becoming a key appliance, which could potentially add that something extra, those trifling moments that turn out to be an essential ingredient.
Finally one day Meera said to Ravi one evening as they sat by the shrine admiring the sunset saying ‘You were right’. In reality, it’s the small details that are the most important. "
Heaven shall be mine, Ravi smiled with more than a great sense of contentment. Indeed, Meera. And we will always be blessed if we will remember that all this time. "
