Episode 1: The couple's initial meeting
Mornings spent in the park brought Lena a baptism away from the hustle and bustle of life. When it was so unusual for her, she could take in the fresh air, hear the sound of leaves crunching, or occasionally just watch the world awaken.
The next morning, the weather was warm but sunny, the rays touched the path as far as the eye could see, and there was a slight wind that brought the fragrance of flowers. That was ideal—the way every other morning can be, or would be.
She was strolling along her same trail, and as she got closer to the extent of the meadow, she focused on a man who was sitting on a bench right in front of her, looking deep in thought, while he had a book in his hands. His dark locks had fallen casually across his forehead, and there was an air of quiet contemplation around him. She felt this weird tug toward him, a shift in the universe—paths shifting and lining up with his, so there was almost a predestined feel to it.
Her feet kept walking, but with slower steps, while her heart picked up. Closer now, she could start to make out the details: the gentle curve of his lips, the power in his eyes when they seemed to stare off into some other world. He looked up suddenly, and they gazed for a moment into one another's eyes. Time seemed to stand still at that moment. The outside world faded and those two only seemed entrapped in the most solid yet tender bond.
She turned away for a second, looking up at a high color and embarrassed. Misha did not really blush, but there was something about this man that caused her to feel nearly nude and, at the same time, very interested. Jogging past her, she attempted to erase that strange sensation that was brewing in her chest. She looked back for a moment before continuing her stroll, and she couldn’t help but wonder that she had just crossed paths with an individual who was going to impact her life in the future.
Episode 2: The Meeting.
The image of the man at the park was just unforgettable for her; the thought of it just wouldn’t get out of her mind. Days had begun to pass, but even when working or going to routine activities, she found herself engulfed in thoughts about that moment. Who was he? Why did he seem so familiar yet unknown?
She went to her favorite coffee shop one evening to unwind. Strolling in, she was enveloped by the rich smell of freshly brewed coffee and felt comforted. She ordered her usual latte with a touch of vanilla and settled down into her corner to be with her book.
Just when she had turned into the first chapter, the tingle of the entrance bell announced somebody's arrival. She looked up, and her heart skipped a beat. It was him—the man from the park. He looked just as she remembered, but this time, he wasn't lost in thought. He looked directly at her.
Their eyes met for a second time, neither of them pulling away this time. Suddenly, there was a flicker of knowing, a silent acknowledgement that they had created a spark the night before. He smiled warmly and genuinely; it sent a fluttery effect into Lena's heart.
He walked toward her table, a cup of coffee in one hand and a book in the other. "Do you mind if I join you?" he asked in that deep, soothing voice.
She nodded, her voice caught in her throat. He sat down opposite her and placed his book on the table. She looked at the cover, and her eyes widened in surprise that it was the same book she read. They both laughed with coincidence, and the ice was broken.
"I'm Ethan," he said, extending his hand.
"Lena," she returned, shaking his hand and feeling the spark of electricity at the touch.
They spent the next hour talking about everything and nothing: books, life, and favorite spots in the city. Talking was easy, just like it had been forever. After finishing their coffee, it felt as if they'd shared something special, something rare.
As they left the coffee shop together, he finally turned to Lena and said, "I'm so glad that I got to meet you properly."
Lena smiled in agreement. "So am I."
Episode 3: Into You
For a couple of weeks, Lena and Ethan were able to see each other more frequently. They would walk in the park on any given morning and loiter at coffee shops during the afternoons whenever they liked to. They would sometimes go for a stroll, especially in the evenings within the city. The more time they spent in each other’s company, the more everything seemed spontaneous and effortless—as if all the elements fitted naturally into the puzzle.
Something in Ethan responded to Lena as no other person could. They were polite, smart, and witty, and they could clear up the dampest of moods as if she lived for that very moment. Above all, what he did was to listen to her and make her believe that he was interested in knowing her. To him, she did not need to put up any charades to be anyone else but herself.
Ethan reached for Lena’s hand one evening when, while they stayed beside the river, the lights of the city were reflected in it. He cut her a sharp look, and she sat up, her heart tapping frantically against her ribs.
"Lena,”, he started gently and solemnly, “I have been thinking a lot recently, and the thoughts revolve around us and how comfortable we are, how much I can enjoy the company, and waiting for the time when I can see you.”.
Lena caught her breath. She could feel the emotion behind his words, echoing her own.
"I'm into you, Lena," Ethan pushed on, never looking away from hers. "And I think I have been since the moment I laid eyes on you in the park. I don't know what the future holds, but I know that I want to find out with you.".
Tears welled up in Lena's eyes, but they were tears of joy. She had felt the same, but to hear him say it aloud made all the difference.
"I'm into you too, Ethan," she whispered back, her tone tremulous with emotion. "I have never felt this way before, but with you, everything just feels so right.".
He smiled and took her into his arms. They hugged hard, holding tighter because the world around them was closing in, fading further and further away with each passing second. Nothing seemed to matter at that moment; they were together, and that was enough.
She felt the river at her back, and she knew this was only the beginning as they embraced one another. Whatever lay ahead, hand in hand and heart to heart, it would be faced together. And she couldn't help but wait for where their journey would take them.
To Be Continued.
