The First Encounter
Riverton was a small, buzzing town that finally started to wind down in the gold of the setting sun, nestled between rolling hills and a quiet river. It had the character of a town where everyone knew everyone. Sophie had finally landed a job at one of the local gyms and was very hardworking, determined to make a change in her life-not just physically but emotionally, too.
She believed that success had to be struggled for, and nothing-let alone love-came that easily.
She had just sat on a bench outside the gym, her hands sore from setting up equipment and welcoming members all day. People passed by—just one more blur within this tapestry called life that she had not quite fathomed yet. Then she saw him approach: a commandeering figure, tall or muscular, and almost rhythmically self-possessed. This man, whose name was Liam, was a fitness trainer in the gym.
Li-am was an honest and typical ladies’ man, confident and ready to get any person who would urge to push. Far beyond that pretty face and cheerful disposition he has on the person he possess. Liam was one of those fellows who go for the jugular and are prepared to commit their lives to it come rain or sunshine; he was a great advocate of fit and fine people, visibly committed to managing their lives well. He realized that in life there is nothing in this world that one can receive easily; it could be strength, success or love.
“Hi Sophie, isn’t it?” he asked, either coming towards her or just walking past; his voice brought her back to reality.
She nodded affirmatively, though she was surprised to see him encroaching in her space, and with such an air of purpose too. “Yeah, that’s me. Honestly, I am recently getting to know this place. ”
"Oh, you’re doing great, as if you’ve been a member like you already,” he said, grinning all throughout. Still, one should understand that training in a gym is not the question of muscles; it is a question of perspective. ” No pain, no gain. No love, no joy.
Sophie had frowned slightly and raised an eyebrow. ‘‘You really are quite a salesman to recapitulate your motto: ‘No gain, no Love’ ’’.
Liam chuckled. "Perhaps. It is sort of my philosophy to start with the basics of the working structure and then seek for the middle and top levels. Finally, when it comes to work, I strictly subscribe to the school of thought that you can always work towards getting what you need, be it health or relationships. Nothing worthwhile comes easy.
Sophie cocked an eyebrow and looked at me, amused, clearly intrigued yet all the while utterly skeptical. "And love? Are you sure that is something you have to struggle to get? He shrugged. "Love is not something you get served on a silver platter; it has to be worked for, same as any other thing!" The boys continued talking, and Sophie couldn't help it but wonder if Liam was right. Do people really need to work so hard when it comes to love, or does it come at the right time, when people least expect it?
One thing was for sure: Liam was much different from anyone she had ever come across, his attitude towards life drawing her personal convictions into question.
The weeks to follow would make the students interact even more. Be it casual chat between one client and another or their exercise in the gym, Liam and Sophie are inching closer to each other. But there had been a silent sort of understanding between them-whatever feelings were brewing between them, they would not let anything come on the surface.
To Sophie, this had been another kind of challenge altogether. Love had been the air that breezed by-cold and abstract-something she was always in short supply of, given how short on time she was. With Liam, though, things felt different. Maybe, just maybe, love was worth the work after all.
