The Burden of the Crown

Kingdom of Eldoria in MY 1285

The sky, greenish-blue, had clouds hovering lightly over the kingdom, which was circumscribed by standing hills with forests all over the great kingdom of Eldoria, just as the sun was setting. From the tallest tower of the royal castle, which was built in the later periods, King Alaric looked at the darkening distant line, his soul absorbed by the care that the crown laid heavily on his shoulders.

He took the throne when he was twenty-five years of age, following the death of his father, King Thrown. Eldoria was quite rich and quite friendly for people, but it is worth mentioning that the fighting for the space was beginning. The chant of rebellion resonated in the palace, and the neighboring realms stared at Eldoria’s prosperity with the fire of covetousness in their eyes.

Yes, Alaric was an honorable man and a great soldier, but what he had to go through can hardly be called a war, even though the world had never seemed anything like this. He was a professional soldier; he had had lessons as a tactician; and he was a scholar of the military history and strategy of the ages. However, to govern a kingdom, one had to go beyond physical power and courage and rather be wise, patient, and knowledgeable about politics.

By the time the light faded, getting behind the mountains, a knock interrupted Alaric’s thoughts.

“Come in,” he said, looking to his right and seeing Lord Cedric.

‘Your Majesty,’ Cedric said, prostrating himself before the king. “The council is waiting for you. There are issues that need your intervention. ”

Alaric sparingly bobbed his head, inhaling deeply and steadying himself for yet another call that was going to be tough. It’s one thing after the other, isn’t it, Cedric? Is there some argument about the ownership of the piece of land this time or are they asking for more soldiers for the borders?

Cedric thought for a moment and his face was earnest. “I think, sire, that the situation is much worse than that. The two kingdoms of Draken and Valoria are plotting together and If they combine their forces, it will be a direct threat to Eldoria. ”

Alaric's jaw tightened. He had anticipated such news but the sensation of implication that twisted in his chest didn’t dissipate. ‘but what about our friends, Have they also stood and made their commitments’.

‘‘Some have, but others are still inexperienced,’’ Cedric agreed. There are more reasons, such as ‘They do not want to get involved in a conflict that can extend over the whole continent since it is feared. ”

Alaric moved in circles in the room, deep in thought. He realized this was true, but he also thought it was untrue that his father’s effort to bring peace was short-lived. War was a mighty tempest that was gathering right above his head, which was ready to devastate all that was dear to him.

But he could not have any weak moment. A warrior kings’ primary responsibility was to the people to fight in their defense; to awaken every morning and go to bed at night knowing that there was a battle he was willing to lay his life for.

“Inform our friends,” Alaric said firmly. “Speak to them, Majesty, that Eldoria is willing to fight if it becomes necessary but we wish not to go to battle ad we wish to avoid a war; ready the army, Mr. Knight. Should a war come upon us, we shall be ready for it. ”

Cedric again made a formal bow and I could sense how much he respected me. "Yes, Your Majesty”, one of the ministers said, “The people of Eldoria are blessed to have such a courageous and wise king. ”

Thus, Cedric went out while Alaric came back to the window and stared at the darkness outside the window. He understood that the road that lay before him was extremely risky and that any one of them could get killed at anytime. Despite this, he further vowed he would lead his kingdom through any other tribulation that awaited it.

For in his deepest thoughts, Alaric had one essential truth that would define his success: courage was not the lack of fear; it was the ability to conquer it.

So at the age of 33, he was able to become the new King of the famous Eldoria, and what was most important was that he was eager to do that.
