The Jetty Episode 1
Return to Bayville
Bayville was a small town that had many pretty landscapes, beautiful old style appealing streets and but most significantly a jetty. Going deep into the expansive water body, the jetty has always been a usually considered a point of solace among the inhabitants of the town. Of them, there was Claire Bennett who had moved from Bayville years ago to follow her career in the big city.
Claire, now twenty eight, moved back to Bayville and as she drove around the town the memories came flooding back. She had come back home to help her ailing grandmother, Margaret who had taken her up after the demise of her parents. Margaret was getting weaker, Claire realized that and decided that it was time for her to move back home.
When Claire arrived at her grandmother’s smaller house in the district, she got a distinct smell of the sea. Although being a thin woman, Margaret smiled standing at the door welcoming me.
“I’m so glad to see you again Claire,” Margaret greeted her with a warm hug.
“Yes, it is real good to be back,” Claire responded, although her voice sounded a little shaky.
For the next few days, Claire busied herself with Margaret and started familiarizing with the town again. One day when the Margaret is asleep, Claire tucked her in bed and goes straight to the jetty. It was a place she was fond of, a place she always went to so as to get some quiet time.
The jetty was just familiar, the boards of the structure creaky due to the harsh sea water weathering. She moved to the last of the pier and settling in the bench allowed her feet to hang in the water. Glancing at the water, Rhonda could hear the waves pound the shore and for some reason she felt this made her feel at peace.

She looked around, still deep in her thoughts when she heard footsteps behind her. While I busied myself with unpacking, she slowly started walking towards me; and then abruptly, I looked up to find someone moving towards me from the back. It was Ethan Parker, her childhood friend, the first love of her life as they say. This was only because after their studies in high school they had drifted apart in their different ways.
“Claire? Is that really you?” Ethan shouted happily recognizing the girl on the other side of the car window.
Hello, Ethan,” Claire said suddenly rising from the table to shake his hand.
They hugged, and for what seemed to be a brief second, they wanted to ignore the passage of time. They also endeavored to spend most of their time chatting and talking about the days that they two and their individual experiences since they met.
He had remained in Bayville and became a marine biologist and working as a scientist in the research center there. He had never gone out of the town being his all, making his life goal to gain as much knowledge as he could about the sea as well as the creatures in it.
Late at night Claire and Ethan returned walking back to the town on the familiar routes engulfs by the moonlight. They agreed to see each other soon-The strength of the friendship was rejuvenated causing formation of new hope and expectation.
Weeks after that, Claire and Ethan began to spend more time together with each other strolling around the town and the woods. They went to the old lighthouse; They undertaken a climb on the cliffs; They sat at the edge of the jetty for so many days, chatting and giggling like they once did.
One evening they were sitting on the jetty watching the sunset, Ethan then looked at Claire solemnly.
”Claire, I’ve missed you,” I blurted the words out because I wanted to tell her for weeks now and I have never ever felt like this before for any other woman” it has been amazing few weeks and only now I have come to realize how much I need you in my life,” he thundered.
Claire gazed deep into his eyes and was in a very confusing state of mind. ”I’ve missed you too Ethan. When I returned here I never thought that I will be able to feel the same way I feel about you again. ”
At some point when the sun starts setting they didn’t talk for a few moments but the Attachment they felt now were very Strong. The jetty which was associated with memories and where they were thinking about the past had made them realize that today they both had hope.

The Hidden Message
There, Claire had several incidences which brought happiness and a retrospect of the past that she spent in Bayville. She was still looking after her grandmother whose health remained relatively steady and contributing her spare time to her relationship with Ethan. Their friendship strengthened and Claire said to herself, Here I am falling in love with him all over again.
One day when Claire was sorting things in the attic together with Margaret she found a small, old, leather-bound book. It was her grandfather’s, a man she had never met in her entire life though she more than heard about him. She seemed to follow this advice and opened the journal to read it curiously.
To be more specific, the entries described her grandfather’s life in the town called Bayville, his seafaring experiences, and his affection to Margaret. But what aroused her interest was a sequence of notes left by the author of the blog on the topic of a secret treasure. As stated in the journal, her grandfather once found a clue, a secret that a fisherman could found on or near the jetty, indicating presence of something of value there.
Claire brought the journal to Ethan who was equally intrigued. They agreed, knowing it would provide the answers her grandfather intended for them to find. They went through the journal and traced the steps of her grandfather solving the puzzle they found in the journal.
Juliet went to look for her bedroom window because Romeo told her to, and they found a hidden box under the planks on the jetty after moving a plank that was barely attached. Inside the box was a collection of items: a map which seems to be old, a compass and Margaret’s locket containing numbers and a picture of Margaret and her grandfather as well.
They dare noted that it is after reading the map that they got to discover that the mark pointed out a particular destination in the ocean, and this is nearly close to the jetty. Ethan, knowing the sea decided to take his boat and travel to the marked area on the map more like a high sea adventure.
